It is the festival of knowledge, music and arts, therefore dedicated to the goddess Saraswati. It also marks the arrival of the spring. In West Bengal, Saraswati Puja is observed in the same way as Durga Puja. Since Goddess Saraswati was born on this day, the festival is called ‘Saraswati Jayanti’.
