On Being Distinguished

Image
The aspiration to become a distinguished person is a virtue that inspires people to do something impossible or to do various social works which they otherwise, with certain unpleasant setbacks, might never do. In ‘On Being Distinguished’, I have tried to delineate the setbacks that social workers often experience. Read the essay here: Generally, the poor are poor because they choose to be. Most of them enjoy themselves drinking wine, smoking, talking of politics and playing cards and scarcely opt to go to work till they have spent every last rupee on them. Anybody...........

A Godsend

Image
I composed this poem on April 23, 2014, a day before Shri Narendra Modi filed his nomination papers in Varanasi. A Godsend      Some enter politics for politics’ sake; Some choose politics as a career. Politicians are both real and fake – Some are ruined some enjoy life superior. Some are born politicians; Some, if nothing else, inherit politics; Some are maladroit politicians; Some are pivotal figures in politics; Some are treated as honoured thinkers; Some are litter of politicized social eddy; Some, though rash, are desirable leaders; Some power-sick consume with self-pity. But few earn their place in the history, Sacrifice everything for people’s sake, Raise countrymen the world to lead, And are delighted people happy to make. He who is married to social welfare, Whose family are the countrymen, Whose competence is beyond compare is Called NaMo: for the nation a godsend, A man of action, of stern moral fibre And with ...

Modi West Wind

After reading the poem ‘Hiy men Patjhar ke Koojta Basant’ by Sri Narendra Modi, I composed these rhyming couplets on 16 January 2014 to dedicate it to him. Modi West Wind Leaves dry and dead are shaking with fear, With the autumn of judgements drawing near. In praise of God hymns the hopeful hallowed False imps from hell have never swallowed.  New shoots on plants, love and life on land Vows the bold brave spring to you to hand. Ready to sweep across the land of Hind And to start anew is the Modi West Wind.   -        Ramesh Chandra Tiwari

The Kite

After reading the poem ‘Utsav’ by Sri Narendra Modi,   I composed this little rhyme on 14 January 2014 (Makar Sankranti day) to dedicate it to him. The Kite                                              Your kite will fly, circle up high Right nigh the sun in the sky. With worship true your righteous heart – Go, go – it will move thy Lord. Move thy God and please thy Lord, Hecklers try however hard. The truth will spread far and wide. Has a lie ever done so well as it to hide? Trees are tall though wind is high, The soul of Lord, your kite will fly. Master kite high up will fly Right nigh the sun in the sky.                                                - Ramesh Chandra Tiwari

A Wad of Notes

Image
Money is very sensitive to raise misunderstanding, thereby not only staining one’s reputation but also damaging a relationship however close, so one should always be very careful about giving and taking money, no matter whether it is between a parent and his child, and if possible avoid becoming too close to a rich person because a rich man does not truly trust lower classes on matters related to money. ‘A Wad of Notes’ is the story of a conscientious college lecturer who meets one such situation and consequently his idealistic way of thinking gets shaken off and what is more, he is mortified every time when he happens to remember those incidents. You dilly-dally?

Image
The story, ‘You dilly-dally?’ represents procrastination which results in a series of terrible events and thus gives a lesson that one should be careful about anything that has to be done, no matter whether it is important or not. The narrator has to purchase an electric fan and a takht which he and his family need as a means of relaxing them in the evenings. Every day he goes to his office with a determination that he would come back home with them, but as he reaches there he gets deeply involved in his work, ignoring all that. And thus when he leaves his office, he forgets all about what he had decided to do. He not only suffers the sultry weather but also listened to his wife’s bitter reproaches on reaching home. One day the situation got one bad. He put his idea to have a cheque cashed on the back burner and consequently he had to escape a series of humiliating incidents.  Click on the link and enjoy the read: An exquisite short story 'You dilly-dally?' by me, p...

Our Inspirations are the Will of God

Image
‘Our Inspirations are the Will of God’ published in The Criterion: An International Journal in English is one of the best stories by me. It not only entertains but also puts an awkward question with obvious answer which you often grapple to find. Just to read it click on the link: The world consists of different sorts of beings, each with a unique feature but inextricably linked, each with their own way of going on but in an environment of threats and challenges, some too fragile to be anything more than a commodity and some so competent as to interfere with nature but not too much to violate the specific area of an action. Moreover, none of them can do, nor can anyone else make one do, anything devotedly unless one is inclined to do that, and this is something that makes one obey God. Even lifeless things do as they are told by Him. Water, for example, goes up in the sky and then rains on land. The story ‘Our Inspirations are the Will of God’ thus conveys how God manages ...

Possessiveness Brings Life; the Excesses, an End

Image
Visit 'The Criterion', An international Journal in English. Now read 'Possessiveness Brings Life; the Excesses, an End' one of the short stories by me, a delight for both the young and mature. You’ll know how birds live and how a pair of them, though very small creatures, play great roles with a message of life. http://www.the-criterion.com/V5/n6/Ramesh.pdf
