  One’s land of birth is one’s real mother, for it is her food, water and air that helped one grow and survive. Since Bharat Mata has played the nurturing role of a mother, so she is our biological mother, and a mother must be revered with deep respect. In Hinduism mother is considered as God: ‘Matru Devo bhav’. Islam teaches that Heaven lies beneath the feet of mothers. The Bible tells us to honour our fathers and mothers. If someone believes they are Bharateeya, why should they not say: “I bow to thee, my Motherland? ‘Vande Mataram’ served as a powerful slogan during our Independence movement. This song united our people through shared patriotism for the anti-colonial struggle. It is our National Song and it holds equal status with the National Anthem.
