Statue of Unity



The most venerated Home Minister, Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel, took over 565 independent states within India. When Shri Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, he organised a Run for Unity as a tribute to 63rd Anniversary of his death on 15 December 2013 and had soil and iron collected from all parts of India so that the highest Statue of Unity could be erected at the River Narmada in Gujarat in memory of the Angel of territorial integrity. This poem was written on 31st October 2018 when the Prime Minister inaugurated the Statue in commemoration of 143rd anniversary of the birth of Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel.

We have for so long worshipped fake ones,
Giving them all the credit for Independence.
That they rubbed out the names of champions
By still dressing up their British dependence

As freedom struggle is their main claim to fame.
Bismil, Bhagat, Shekhar, Savarkar, Subash
Died for the country but got no good name.
Had it not been for the wisdom of Sardar,

There would be Kashmirs all over the country;
Waned his contributions worthy to be preserved;
The candidate for PM supported by all and sundry
Had to withdraw the candidacy he richly deserved:

It was not until the Unity Run and the Colossus
That his birthday prominence ..................................
