गणतंत्र दिवस

मंज़िल वही पहुचते हैं जो अपने बल पर चलते हैं,

कायर और फिसड्डी केवल भाग्य कोसते रहते हैं |

मैदान बुलाने जाता है क्या आकर उस पर खेलो ?

अगर खेलना है तुमको तो आगे बढ़कर देखो |

मैदान वही है, देश वही है, लोग जीतते तुम भी जीतो,

हाथ पकड़कर तुम्हें जिताना क्यों चाहेगा कोई सोचो |

हार-हार कर बार-बार क्या टाँग खीचकर जीतोगे ?

घृणा अग्नि से पौरुष के पौधों को कैसे सीचोगे ?

हर एक पितामह के सीने में देश प्रेम की ज्वाला थी,

हर एक हृदय में आज़ादी के सपनों की वरमाला थीं |

कौड़ी की कीमत में बिकने प्राणों के तब ढेर लगे थे,

सूखी नदियों में बहने को रक्त श्रोत सब उफन पड़े थे |

नहीं कभी सोचा था उनने भावी भारत क्या होगा –

अपनी ही ज़ंजीरों में वह बुरी तरह जकड़ा होगा !

खींचा-खांची, नोचा-नोची, वही तमाशा, वही हताशा,

वही ईर्ष्या, आस मुफ़्त की, घर भरने की वही पिपासा !

प्रबल द्वेष में दिखने लगता प्यार बुरी नज़रों में |

भारत माँ के लाल सिपाही हैं, गोली हैं बन्दूखो में,

तुम्हें याद 'अधिकार' रहेगा केवल तब तक, भूलो मत !

फिर 'कर्तब्य' निचोड़ेगा रग-रग, कस-कस अंतिम साँसों तक |

गणतंत्र दिवस एक राष्ट्र-पर्व है: मात्र पर्व है ? नहीं, नहीं !

यह आँख खोलने आया है, देखो ! कुछ तो है जो सही नहीं |

Makar Sankranti

Sankaranti means the movement of the sun from one zodiac sign into another. The sankranti when the Sun leaves the Capricorn (Makara), the tenth sign of the zodiac, is called ‘Makar Sankranti’. Makar Sankranti used to fall on 31 December a thousand years ago but now it falls on 14 or 15 January because the date of winter solstice changes by 1 day in every 70 years due to the axial precession of the earth. It is believed that Maan Durga, with a view to obliterating Mahisasur, incarnated at the holy ashram of maharishi Kardam and his wife Devhuti on the day of Makar Sankranti. Since the Sun turns to northward called Uttrayan following the day of winter solstice, the warmer and longer days begin to follow from this day onward and all the sacred rituals are allowed to be performed; or in other words, it is the end of an inauspicious period of Capricorn between mid-December and mid-January. Makar Sankranti also marks the celebration of harvest and the arrival of the spring. It is celebrated in all parts of our country in many cultural forms. On this day, people bathe in Ganga, make a donation to charity and eat garam-garam khichadi, with deshi ghee, hot and spicy vegetables and salad. Happy Makar Sankranti, everyone!

 

In Love with God

When I tried, my Lord, to see you

Through the open windows of my eyes,

You looked beyond every reach;

However, as I closed them and sat thinking of you,

I found none but you,

Smiling on the bottom of my soul.

If something that I have left in my heart,

You know, it has started eluding me, too.

O God! I feel something going across it

Since I attained you.

I wish I had passed all my life

In the pure light of your presence.

Being purely dependent on you,

I have ignored everything else.

To say the truth, I wish to live for you.

I do not know, O God, where you are;

But I know you hold the whole universe in you.

Morning, noon and night

I pray that no flower of my hope should turn fade.

Having absolutely drenched in your love,

I wake while in sound sleep

And sleep when waking.

I am afraid to think of anything else

Lest my sweet dreams should get away from me.
